We have read, viewed and discussed
information and different opinions about how Canada has decided to stop the
manufacturing and distribution of pennies. What is your personal opinion about
this Canadian event? Answer the following questions in full sentences and
include specific details.
1. What is my opinion about this
issue?
2. Is my opinion biased? What has
influenced me? (YouTube videos, newspaper articles, online articles, my peers?)
3. Do I think I have all the
necessary pieces of information to have an informed opinion?
4. What steps can I take to be a
more informed citizen?
5. What have I learned about bias,
opinion and neutral ideas from this unit?
What do we learn in Media Literacy?
We look at different media such as YouTube videos, movie trailers, commercials, posters and websites. We see who the audience is, what the message is, how it is being communicated. We also create our own media text (posters, media postcards)
We have done a unit on Stop Smoking and how Canada stopped distributing pennies.
Here are some examples of media texts we have looked at.
