  1. Today we discussed how the features of a text communicates a message. The students identified that the Nicroette advertisement was telling parents that if they smoke, their children might think it is fun and okay to smoke. The students identified that the second poster communicated they innocent bystanders are affected by second-hand smoke. The students also identified that similar messages can be communicated in different ways for different purposes. For example, they identified that although the Nicorette and 'You Smoke. We Smoke' ads communicated to people that smoking is harmful, they do so in differently. The students also identified that the intended purpose behind the Nicorette ad is not just to help people but to see a product.
